Great Yarmouth's member of parliament has backed the strong pleas to dual the Acle Straight.

Following three multiple-car collisions in as many weeks on the Acle Straight, campaigners continue to voice the necessity of dualling that stretch of the A47.

Councillor and chair of the A47 Alliance Graham Plant voiced the need for the entirety of the A-road to be dualled to increase road safety and to improve links between the county and the rest of the country.

Yarmouth MP Sir Brandon Lewis said he "fully supports" the efforts to lobby for the dualling of the Acle Straight and improvements along the A47 in general.

Sir Brandon said: "Over the years, through collaborative working, we have secured crucial investments into Great Yarmouth, including the third river crossing and roundabout upgrades.

"Once these have been delivered, the case for dualling will be even stronger

"Progress is being made.”

In June, fears were raised that Norfolk is "not on the radar" to get millions of pounds more for further dualling of the A47.

The following month, Norfolk County Council sent the stark message that dozens more people will die or be hurt in crashes on the A47 unless the government commits to dualling.
