No dental surgery in the Great Yarmouth area is providing NHS treatment for new patients.

All 13 dental surgeries around Great Yarmouth, Caister, Gorleston and the surrounding villages have closed their books to new NHS patients.

According to the NHS Find a Dentist website, five surgeries - all John G Plummer and Associates - have specified they are only taking NHS patients on the referral of another dentist.

However, a Plummer secretary said this was a website error and should soon be updated to confirm these surgeries remain closed to people wanting treatment on the NHS.

This comes as Norfolk was described as a 'dental desert' last year, where demand for NHS services far outstrips supply.

According to the NHS website, three surgeries - Mr JG Plummer on Church Lane, Bradwell, Together Dental, Ormesby and Acle Dental Surgery - had not given a recent update on whether they were accepting new NHS patients.

We called the surgeries to confirm.

Plummer and Ormesby Dental Care both said they were not accepting new patients on the NHS at present and Acle Dental Surgery said: "We are not NHS, we are private."
