The Great Yarmouth branch of a national crisis support charity is holding an information evening for people interested in the cause.

Samaritans are holding an information evening at its branch at 62 North Quay from 7pm on Wednesday, August 23.

The event is for anyone who wants to find out more about the charity and what being a Samaritans volunteer involves.

People are welcome to bring a friend and there is no obligation to become a volunteer following the event.

Branch director Jude Richardson said: "There is no pressure to sign up.

"We would just like to inform people a little bit more about what we do in a relaxed and welcoming setting."

Every 10 seconds, Samaritans respond to a call for help.

They are available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for anyone who is struggling to cope, and needs someone to listen without judgement or pressure.

In 2021, around 22,000 people volunteered their time for Samaritans.

Almost 20,000 trained listening volunteers responded to calls for help.
