A daytime nightclub for older people - in their 60s, 70s and 80s - is coming to Great Yarmouth.

The Posh Club will be making its debut in the town at The Drill Hall on York Road on Saturday, September 9, from noon until 3pm.

Annie Bowden, manager and co-founder, said the club is for "glamorous golden girls, elegant elders and swanky senior citizens".

The line-up includes dance acts The Bees Knees and Pink Suits and local acts, The Rogue Shanty Buoys from Lowestoft, and Dulce Duca, a Portuguese circus performer who now lives in Great Yarmouth.

Ms Bowden is also looking for local people to volunteer for the event as posh black tie waiters and hosts.

“It’s a very fun, rewarding volunteering role, mixing with the guests and having fun, but you have to make an effort to look glamorous," she said.

Ms Bowden and her brother Simon Casson set up the club for their mother.

“Mum had moved from London to be near me and was feeling a bit lonely," Ms Bowden said.

"I wanted to give her and her elderly neighbours a treat so I served nice sandwiches, and scones with cream and jam and we had a dance around the living room."

The women enjoyed the afternoon so much that Ms Bowden repeated the parties.

Then Mr Casson, a cabaret producer in London, suggested they put on a bigger event to include more people from the area.

“We booked a local church hall, decorated it and Simon booked some very risqué cabaret – sexy burlesque dancers and singers and comedians, whilst I recruited my mates to pretend to be black tie posh waiters and serve very fancy afternoon tea.”

In the past ten years, the event has gone from strength to strength, opening branches in Hastings, Hackney, Peckham, Crawley, Portsmouth, Brighton and Eastbourne.
