A man has been refused a bid to build a house on land owned by his parents.

Mark Parker was seeking outline planning permission for a self-build house on a garden plot at Forestry Cottage on New Road in Fritton.

According to a document, he wanted to build the dwelling to be in close proximity to his grandmother who lives in a property attached to Forestry Cottage.

This would have enabled him "to help them remain independent in their later years", a planning statement said.

He also said the site was only 35m from the Fritton development limit and should be considered a sustainable location.

But planners from Great Yarmouth Borough Council refused the application, raising concerns that future residents would be reliant on a private car for day to day journeys.

The nearest shop, a Tesco in Belton, is almost 3 miles away.

The application had received eight comments with one objection.

Fritton with St Olaves Parish Council did not object to the bid while Councillor Ivan Murray-Smith, who represents Lothingland ward, supported the application.
