Half term in Great Yarmouth is set to go with a bang with an extra firework evening one of the highlights among a line-up of spectacular and spooky events.

The fireworks, funded by Visit Great Yarmouth, will be back on the seafront on Wednesday, October 25, at 9pm and will complement a whole host of activities and attractions planned for the borough across the week.

The award-winning Fairground Frights is returning to The Pleasure Beach for five nights of scary spectacles.

Expect actors in creepy costumes, scare mazes and some sinister surprises, which will be accompanied by chilling tunes and cocktails.

All the rides will be open during the event, which is suitable for children aged 10 and over.

The Pleasure Beach is open all half term and Fairground Frights will run from Wednesday, October 25, to Sunday, October 29, from 5.30pm-9pm, with an end of season firework display on the last day at 9pm.

Over at The Hippodrome Circus, dress up in your Halloween costumes and join Jack Jay and comedian Johnny Mac at the Halloween Spooktacular, running from October 20-31.

Dazzling dancers will join acrobats, aerialists and daring stunt performers.

Pumpkins will be the order of the day at Hirsty’s Family Fun Park. It’s open this weekend and from October 21 to 29, as the Halloween Hoot returns.

There’s a chance to pick your own pumpkin from the patch and a carve a spooky face in the carving area.

The Mega Maze will be open with a seasonal theme, as well as all the onsite activities, including the zip wire, crazy croquet, and the new jumping pillows.

There are also two evening events on October 27 and 28, where families are dared to enter the maze to solve some encrypted puzzles.

Tickets are £15, with food and drink available to purchase during the evening.

Joyland will be open both weekends of the half term holiday for families to ride the iconic snails and enjoy the other attractions, while Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens will be open daily.

Over at Merrivale Model Village, a new miniature haunted house will be showcased and on October 25 there will be a spooky illumination evening to coincide with the fireworks.

There’s a competition for the best Halloween outfit and a scavenger hunt with goodie bags up for grabs.

Indoor adventures come in the form of Sealife Great Yarmouth where children are invited to help the sea witch and warlock look after their ocean home and fellow sea creatures by completing magical challenges.

There’s a reward on offer for completion, an activity trail, challenges and much more.

St George’s Theatre in Great Yarmouth is hosting a candlelit evening of chilling ghost tales on October 27 from the Witch Counties of East Anglia, while over at Gorleston’s Pavilion Theatre, Gorleston Theatre Company is presenting Drac and the Beanstalk from October 26 to 28, where the audience will meet the ghoulish residents in the little village of Hammer.

It’s Herring Day on Thursday, October 26, at the Time and Tide Museum. Children can meet the fisher girl and learn all about life following the fishing fleets, before making their own fishy decoration to take home. There’s also a herring trail to follow.
