One of the UK's leading campaigners for change in menopause education and awareness is hosting a free event in a Norfolk village.

Diane Danzebrink, founder of Menopause Support and the #MakeMenopauseMatter campaign, will appear at 'Understanding Menopause' in Hickling Barn Community Centre on Saturday, October 21.

From 10.30am to 1pm, people will be able to ask questions about perimenopause, menopause and the wide variety of physical and mental challenges this stage in life brings.

Ms Danzebrink founded Menopause Support, a purpose over profit organisation, in 2015.

She wanted to create a resource for women after her own terrifying experience of going into instant menopause following surgery, which brought her close to suicide.

She is a qualified personal therapist and wellbeing consultant with professional nurse training in menopause.

She said: “I’ve recently moved to Norfolk and thought it made sense to start talking to women who live close by.

"I’ve been astounded by the response to the event so far and am really looking forward to talking to my new neighbours.”

Ms Danzebrink said there are more than 30 recognised symptoms of menopause which can be debilitating and life-changing.

“More than 70pc of women will experience some or all of these symptoms which can start at any age.

"Whilst there is growing awareness of the impact that menopause can have on women, information, education and support is still patchy and hard to access," she said.

As a result of the campaign, menopause has been added to the RSE curriculum in England and Menopause Support is currently working on a free lesson resource that will be available to all schools.
