The site of a neglected pub by a Great Yarmouth supermarket is up for sale.

Supermarket giant Sainsbury's is selling over half of an acre of land on St Nicholas Road, Great Yarmouth.

The site contains surplus parking spaces and the derelict Tudor Tavern.

The Tudor Tavern was once renowned across the town for its St George's flag paint job, celebrating both the patron saint's day and supporting England in their pursuit of World Cup glory at Germany 2006.

Sixteen landlords were at the helm for the next 120 years, before the St Nicholas Tavern was renamed the Tudor Tavern in 1984.

The pub was a popular haunt for pool and darts teams over the next two decades, before closing its doors for good by June 2013. Its patriotic paintwork was whitewashed by mid-2017.

Sainsbury's had acquired planning permission in 2015 to build a petrol station on the site - less than 50m from the existing Shell station - but the development did not go through.

There is no guide price for the land, but agents have invited unconditional offers.

The Iron Duke, which is currently being converted into a family restaurant, closed in 2008.

More recently, popular Northgate Street pub The Kings Arms was put on the market for a free-of-tie lease at £32,500.

The Sainsbury's supermarket is unaffected by the sale.
