The organiser of this year’s poppy appeal in Ormseby and surrounds said he was thrilled at the support it has received.
Colin Jones, who is vice chairman of the Ormseby and district branch of the Royal British Legion, said £10,266 had been donated in two weeks at Caister Tesco, on top of £3,538.81 from collection boxes around the area.
He said along with proceeds from a fortnightly bingo session in Hemsby and Ormesby, they were hoping for a total of £20,000 by the end of the year.
Mr Jones said: “For such a small area I think that is fantastic. This is the first year that I’ve been doing it and everybody has been amazing.”
Mr Jones said he wanted to thank all the volunteers who had contributed, along with Caister Tesco manager Bradie Hubbard, the supermarket’s staff, as well as Norman and Jan.
“We have to thank them all because they were all so good to us,” he said.
“And for those who fought, we will remember them. They will never be forgotten.”
