The development of 30 affordable homes in Great Yarmouth is just months away from completion.

The new housing estate on Estcourt Road is ongoing after permission was given in early 2022.

Then-owners Minster Property Group made the initial bid, later selling the development to Flagship Homes.

Ground was broken at the site - which used to be part of the nearby Northgate Hospital - in early 2023.

The former hospital administration building - known as the Drake Centre - was demolished as part of the development.

"The Great Yarmouth community needs more affordable housing and we’re pleased to provide high-quality new builds to meet this need."

The development will have 14 two-bedroom houses, two three-bedroom houses, two four-bedroom houses, eight three-bedroom houses and four one-bedroom flats.

Each property will have private parking, with extra spaces for visitors.

An "acoustic barrier" will also be installed on the boundaries of the site to limit noise from the Great Yarmouth Borough Services' depot on Churchill Road and the garages on Estcourt Road.

The development will provide 30 affordable homes for the area through the housing association Newtide Homes.

The Estcourt Road development comes as people have called for more affordable housing in the area. Great Yarmouth Borough Council delivered its biggest housing stock expansion in 17 years at Jubilee Court in July.

Earlier this month, it was announced the council is looking to create a £2m 'social letting scheme' that will boost the number of affordable rental properties in the district.
