News that a snack factory in the heart of Great Yarmouth will be leaving the town has prompted speculation about the future of one of the town's landmarks.

The 'semolina towers' on Southtown Road belong to Pasta Foods - the former parent company of Snack Creations which recently announced it will move to a larger site in Norwich in 2026.

Although the factory is moving, the semolina mill will remain in place where its twin towers overlook the River Yare.

A spokesperson for Pasta Foods said: "There are no plans for the semolina towers on Southtown Rd as this is part of the Pasta Foods business, which is separate to the Pasteur Road site for Snack Creations."

Snack Creations, originally operating as Pasta Foods, opened at the bespoke Pasteur Road site in 1972.

The snack division of Pasta Foods separated in 2019, and the Great Yarmouth site became home to Snack Creations.

In 2006, a semolina silo at the Pasteur Road site overfilled and blasted the grain into the air, covering the town in a white film of semolina flour.
