Great Yarmouth's e-scooter service has been suspended by the company behind it, because of growing frustration with the government about delays on bringing in new rules for the devices.

Ginger - which runs the trial scheme in partnership with the borough council - announced the decision on its app this week.Great Yarmouth Mercury: SUSPENDED: Only information about parking spaces remains on Ginger's app in Great Yarmouth. "These trials were meant to last one year, starting in 2020. The government has recently announced they will require more than six years to decide, still providing no certainty for operators.

"We have tried all we can to provide continuity, but the indefinite delay is making it very difficult for operators, especially British operators like Ginger."

During the trial 26pc of the town's 18 to 29-year-olds had a registered Ginger account, and more than 250,000 miles had been ridden - enough to circle the earth ten times.

The company has been contacted for comment.
