An experienced publican with 25 years in the hospitality industry is opening a new cafe at a Great Yarmouth seafront attraction.

Matthew Knapp, 45, is fully renovating the former Sands Cafe premises on Britannia Pier into a completely new food and drink destination. 

Under the Pier will open on March 1 with a focus on breakfasts, sandwiches, jacket potatoes, loaded fries and more.

Mr Knapp said: "We are looking to really modernise the food on offer and source everything from local butchers and bakers.

"As well as a whole new rebranding, the space is being deep-cleaned and fully renovated ahead of opening."

He previously founded an American diner in Dover in 2008 which he later sold and has operated 27 pubs across a 25-year-long career in the industry. 

Mr Knapp also runs the Great Eastern bar in nearby Nelson Road Central which he said was part of a growing family of local businesses. 

He added: "With my partner and a few close employees, I have a good team around me."
