Great Yarmouth Police have held a free bike marking session in the town's marketplace.

People were able to bring their bicycles along and have them security marked and registered by officers on to the National Bike Register for free.

The event saw 40 bicycles added to the national register.

The marking process not only acts as a deterrent to potential bike thieves, but also increases the likelihood of an owner being reunited with the bike if it is stolen.

In a statement, Great Yarmouth Police said: "Fuelled by market chips, we added over 40 bicycles to the national bike register this time, and gave out plenty of crime prevention advice and general cycle education."

The event took place on February 17.

Marking events have previously been held at St George's Park - and in the last year more than 100 bikes have been added to the register.
