Great Yarmouth Borough Council has launched a new series of guided heritage walks.

The walks, which are offered from April to October, cover various topics and locations.

They give an insight into the history of the market town, seaside resort and fishing port.

An official Great Yarmouth heritage guide will lead each walk.

There are ten unique walks, including the Medieval Town Wall, a chance to explore the Scheduled Ancient Monument which surrounds Great Yarmouth.

The Quayside and Seaside at Gorleston-on-Sea walk details the history of Gorleston's seafront.

The Sun, Sea, Stars and Circus walk looks into the role of the holiday and entertainment industry in shaping the seafront and Golden Mile.

Another tour tells the story of Great Yarmouth's historic alleyways known as Rows and the herring industry's role in the town's growth, including a visit to the Lydia Eva, the last-surviving steam drifter.

The Gravestones and Tombstones of Great Yarmouth Minster walk offers a chance to learn about the characters laid to rest at the historic site.

Gory Stories on a Wicked Walk details the murders that happened within the Rows as well as stories of the stocks and pillory, whippings and hangings.

For those a little younger, there is a walk named Yucky Yarns aimed at primary school-aged children which includes gory stories, ghastly goings on with pirates, graveyard tricks and secret chests.

This year the walks are presented in collaboration with businesses, including the Pavilion Theatre, Kirsty’s Cakery, the Lydia Eva and Lacons Brewery.

Tickets cost £5.50 for adults, £3 for children aged seven-17 years and admission is free for under sevens.

Booking for the walks is essential with bookings for each walk closing 48 hours ahead of them taking place.
