A ‘vile’ attack that saw a man bit and spit at a police officer as he struggled to restrain him has seen him jailed.

Justin Loades, 39, had been arrested over a suspected offence when he attacked officers in the police investigation centre in Great Yarmouth.

Norwich Magistrates’ Court was told he had become disruptive while being detained in custody and had bitten the hand of an officer and spat in his face.

Josephine Jones, prosecuting, said the consequences had left the officer requiring treatment and tests.

Richard Mann, mitigating, said that he had been “very agitated” as a result of his arrest and that no further action had been taken over an alleged affray he had been suspected of.

Deputy District Judge Jacqui Appleton jailed him for three months.

“What you did was totally unacceptable. It was more than naughty, it was vile. Only immediate imprisonment is justified,” she said.

She ordered that he pay £200 compensation to the officer.
