Two sporting kings join forces in special meet-up at Potters

"Hello Mervyn, I'm Mervyn."

As the World Indoor Bowls Championships is approaching its climax on the Norfolk coast it has seen the meeting of two sporting legends with the same name.

Mervyn King, a leading bowls player from Fakenham, met Mervyn King the darts player at Potters Resorts during the tournament in Hopton.

Their meeting was captured in a video in which the bowls player said: "I'm Mervyn King the bowler trying to win the world championships indoors."

The darts player, who lives in the Great Yarmouth area, replied and said: "I'm Mervyn King the darts player and just regained my PDC pro tour card."

The two Mervyns met up for a fun day at Potters where the darts player first tried his hand against the bowls great on the rink.

Then the Fakenham native challenged the darts player to a game of darts.

Bowler Mervyn King is a three-time men's pairs champion at the World Indoor Championships and last won the men's singles in 2006.

Meanwhile darts player Mervyn King has won numerous tournaments at home and in Europe, and reached the World Championship darts semi-final in 2009.

Every year Potters Resorts is host to the greatest bowls talent on the planet and this year has been hosting the World Indoor Championships for the 28th time.

The "Mecca" of bowls, as described by English player Les Gillett, is now into the third week of the tournament with seven former winners and a qualifier featuring in today's quarter-finals.

Scotsman Jason Banks, who won an unprecedented triple crown at Potters in 2025, faces off against Englishman Nick Brett in the first quarter-final.

Katherine Rednall won a seventh World Indoor bowls title by defeating Nicole Rogers in the ladies singles final.

All matches are streamed live on the World Bowls Tour YouTube and Facebook pages.

The tournament concludes on Sunday, January 25, when the World Open Singles final takes place.
