70-year marriage celebrated
THEY have been the love of each other's lives and last Friday, Harry and Hilda Sturman celebrated 70 years as husband and wife.Friends and family including great-great grandchild, 20-month old Dylan Page, joined the couple for their platinum anniversary party at Martham village hall.

To add to the occasion the very next day, son Norman celebrated his 58th birthday, Dylan's father Craig was 27 and Harry 91!
A congratulations card was sent from the Queen to add to the one the couple had received for their diamond wedding anniversary.
Married on February 19, 1940 at Bradwell parish church, Harry and Hilda, 89, were part of the same group of friends in Gorleston.
At the time of their wedding Harry was serving as a technician with the RAF while his wife was working at Johnsons oilskin factory in Great Yarmouth.

The couple have five children: Rita, Russell, Norman and Rosalind - another daughter Sandra sadly died from cancer eight years ago.
While Hilda looked after the family, Harry spent most of his working life maintaining the boilers at the old power station on South Denes. They moved from Gorleston to their present home in Martham 33 years ago and have 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
A member of the Martham Over 60s Club, Hilda enjoys knitting while Harry likes to pass the time reading and solving puzzles.
Reflecting on the secret of a successful marriage Hilda said: “We live day to day, keep ourselves to ourselves and always led normal lives. I remember liking Harry the first time I saw him, he was 21 the day after our wedding so it was quite a celebration.”
