An elderly woman had to be treated for smoke inhalation after a blaze broke out in her home - one of five that firefighters tackled in the space of a few hours.

The alarm was raised at about 10.40pm on Monday and two fire crews were sent to the woman's house in Mill Road in Blofield Heath.

She had managed to put out the blaze by the time crews arrived but still needed to be treated by paramedics.

Earlier in the evening at 8.17pm crews were called to a small flat fire at Alexandra House on Thomas Wyatt Close in Norwich. They had put the blaze out by 8.31pm.

At 11.33pm they dealt with a fire which started in an electrical fire in a bedroom at a house in Marine Parade, Gorleston, where it was believed people were trapped. Crews had dealt with the incident and accounted for all the occupants less than 20 minutes later.

Two fires then followed at Russell Road in Yarmouth, one was started deliberately in a bin just after midnight yesterday but spread to damage the front of a nearby house. Another was a small blaze at a private property which started at 2.32am yesterday. Crews put out both within 20 minutes.
