MORE than 200 morris dancers from all over England will be heading to Norfolk next month.

Brighton Morris Men, the Nottinghamshire-based Lady Bay Revellers and Bristol's Rag Morris are among the groups that will be taking part in the special event, hosted by the Norwich Golden Star morris side on September 18 and 19.

Eammon Andrews, squire of Golden Star Morris, said, “We are looking forward to welcoming so many morris dancers to this fine city and hope that passing members of the public enjoy watching what is sure to be a spectacular and colourful display.”

On Saturday, September 18, the dancers will be performing at different places in Norwich including the Maddermarket Theatre, the Assembly House and outside The Forum. Dancing will take place between about 10.45am and 3.30pm.

The following day, they will be in Reepham market place from about 11.30am until 3pm.

About 20 morris sides will be at the event in total, and all the different styles of the dance form will be represented.

These include: Cotswold morris, danced with intricate stepping and handkerchiefs or sticks; Border Morris, originating from the borders of England and Wales and danced with sticks; and North-West morris, performed in clogs and frequently with flower garlands.
