A busy road has reopened to eastbound traffic after a lorry jackknifed on the A47 between Acle and Great Yarmouth.

Highways England and the Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing team said the A47 Acle Straight reopened about 4.30pm today (Saturday) – having been closed since around 8am.

The A47 road was closed for more than eight hours following the collision between a lorry and a car. Police, Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service and the East of England Ambulance Service were sent to the scene following reports of “a collision and jackknifed HGV” on the A47 Acle Straight.

Closures at Acle and Great Yarmouth were put in place and police advised motorists to avoid the area and plan their routes accordingly.

Norfolk Recovery also attended the scene and Highways England tweeted within the past 25 minutes: “#A47 is OPEN eastbound between the #A1064 #Acle and the #A149 #Halvergate after an earlier collision and overturned HGV. No delays reported.”

The Norfolk and Suffolk Roads Policing team tweeted: “#A47 now reopening after the RTC this morning. Thanks for everyone’s patience & sorry for anyone delayed.”
