The Lowestoft-bound A47 has been shut following the crash by the Gorleston turn off roundabout before the James Paget University Hospital.

It happened at about 12.50pm and involved a silver car.

Norfolk police are advising motorists heading towards Lowestoft to avoid the area.

The fire brigade and ambulance service were also called out. Police said the driver was conscious.

A spokesman for the ambulance said: “We were called today at 12.48pm to reports of car hitting the central reservation on the A47 at Gorleston.

“We sent two ambulance crews, a rapid response vehicle and the East Anglian Air Ambulance to the scene.

“They treated a man believed to be in his 60s at the scene, he was then transferred to the James Paget University Hospital by land ambulance for further care.”

The air ambulance landed in Elm Avenue.
