A MAN clocked speeding at more than 100mph on the A47 at Acle was fined 600 and given six penalty points.

Alan Harper, of Martham Road, Hemsby, was caught travelling in his Mercedes at 102mph on the 70mph section of dual carriageway near Acle on June 11, said prosecutor Peter Coe.

Great Yarmouth Magistrates Court heard on Friday that the 47-year-old had been to Norwich to collect his son and his friend from football practise.

Harper, who admitted the offence and represented himself, said: “I was not paying attention and as soon as a I knew what speed I was doing I slowed down.

“You can see by my record I am not a habitual speeder.”

Pleading with magistrates not to disqualify him, Harper said a driving ban would impact heavily on his life working in Lowestoft and travelling around the country as an athletics coach.

Magistrates fined Harper 300, ordered him to pay total costs of 50 and put six penalty points on his licence.
