An appeal to support a teenage girl with an inoperable brain tumour has smashed its target.

Abbie Boast, 13, from Great Yarmouth, discovered she had a grade 2 diffuse astrocytoma two weeks ago, and now her family is hoping the NHS will quickly send her to America for a specialist type of radiation treatment.

An online donation page called Little Bird’s Big Battle was created with a target of £10,000, but as of yesterday more than £12,800 has been raised.

The money will go towards living costs for her family in America, as well as any costs they have to pay for back home.

Her mother, Ali, said: “She will go to Addenbrooke’s for an MRI at the beginning of August, and depending on how that goes, she could be sent to America after that.

“The support we have had has been absolutely fantastic. Not only have friends and family been donating but we have had massive donations from people who don’t know us and just want to help.

“It has really been humbling to see the generosity of people.”

Last week Abbie returned to Great Yarmouth High School for the first time since May.

She has received support from Retroskate, while her former Primary School raised £1,771 for the campaign.

A committee group set up by her aunt Kelly, called Abbie’s Angels, has been coming up with a host of fundraising ideas.

They have had a stall and a raffle at Gorleston Rangers football tournament while Georgia Harvey will be doing a sponsored swim, and Lisa Steele will do a charity bike ride.

On July 22 there will be a charity bingo party at Ocean Bay Amusement Arcade from 2pm to 5pm which will be suitable for both children and adults.

On July 29 there will be a cake and coffee morning at the Hatfield Hotel in Lowestoft and from 6.30pm a family fun day at the Oliver Twist Pub.

And on July 30 there will be a car boot sale at St Paul’s Church on Salisbury Road.
