DESPITE very poor growing conditions during the summer, high temperatures coupled with lack of rain and later hail storms and gale force winds, gardeners at Acle produced some good entries at the 37th annual show of produce and craft staged by Acle Society at the high school on Saturday, September 5.

“We are full of praise for all who entered,” said society chairman John Harriss, with entries totalling 594 from 79 exhibitors, compared with 668 items from 80 people last year. The difference due mainly to reduced entries in the flower sections.

Mr Harriss reported good support in the cookery, handicraft and photographic sections with some very good examples in each and it was particularly pleasing to see far more entries in the junior sections this year, with 29 items in the eight years and under group and 17 in the nine to 16 year group, the most for a number of years.

Mr Harriss thanked members of the organising committee, the judges and friends of the society for help and the 200 plus people who visited during the afternoon viewing session.

Show cups and trophies were presented by the chairman and Brian Casey was auctioneer at the closing auction of produce.
