ALL of the youngsters at Acle St Edmund Primary School took part in an Italy Day last week, which was planned as part of their Comenius project. The school has links with partner schools in Italy, France and Spain, and has been working with the other schools on a range of joint projects over the past two years. The idea of having the Italy Day was to learn about the country in a fun, interactive way. Pupils dressed up in the colours of the Italian flag, red, white and green, or dressed Italian style. They learnt to dance the Tarantella, create mosaic patterns and pictures, play an Italian football game and even paint upside down (under tables) to help them understand how difficult it was for Michelangelo to paint the Sistine chapel! Cooking took place, too, and the school was filled with the delicious smell of pizza being prepared, in our new kitchen. The pupils had the chance to work together in mixed age groups and to enjoy a very different sort of day. And a film of the day will be sent to the Italian school, where they will be celebrating an English Day later in the year.
