Local celebrity chef Richard Hughes attended a special Chinese feast that was not only cooked by Year 7 pupils at Acle High School, but they also made all of the decorations to go with the themed dinner.
Over 80 people attended the event where Richard praised the pupils' cooking skills and congratulated them on a successful evening. He was so impressed that he has invited them to his restaurant, The Lavendar House, for a special cooking demonstration and lunch.
Acle High School and Sodexo, the school's catering provider, organised the event as part of the government's Creative Partnerships scheme. The school and Sodexo also teamed up with East Feast, a successful Suffolk-based organisation which has developed a number of projects that link food with art.
For the project, 22 Year 7 students worked hard to perfect their Chinese cooking skills as well as designing their own aprons, table cloths and decorations for the occasion.
Sodexo chefs at the school assisted and coached the pupils when cooking the meal. Braised prawns with vegetables and festive golden five spice chicken were just two of the dishes on the menu.
In addition, the evening was also in celebration of the opening of the school's new dining room and food technology room.
