Negotiations have yet to begin with staff at Market Gates shopping centre, but if Adams Kids gets the go ahead to open the new shop in the centre's �16m extension, the return of the chain would represent a timely boost for the town's retail sector.
Brian Smith, property manager for Adams Kids, said 10 new jobs would be created and the aim was to have the new shop up-and-running by the end of this year.
The previous shop in King Street was forced to close in January after the company went into administration, resulting in the closure of 147 Adams Kids stores across the country and the loss of 1,300 jobs.
Mr Smith said: “We were already looking at moving into the extension to the shopping centre before we went into administration. We had already had some conversations with the developers and we will certainly be talking to them towards the end of the year.”
He added the new shop would be renamed Adams Kids Loves Fashion and the location had been chosen because it was more prominent within the town centre and would attract shoppers.
“It is mainly because the shopping centre is the focus of shopping in Great Yarmouth. Market Gates is where most people go first. “The new Debenhams store there is a big attraction. You get the whole range of shopping in Market Gates, whereas Adams Kids is more specialist so it is much better for us to be located in the main drag where most of the shoppers are,” Mr Smith said.
The new jobs will not go directly to staff from the previous King Street outlet, although they will be able to apply without losing the redundancy package they secured following the closure of the previous branch.
The retailer is able to reopen in Yarmouth after former co-owner John Shannon bought back a slimmed-down version of Adams Kids on Saturday, saving 120 of the firm's shops from closure.
