It was as good as Christmas for the borough's children who woke up under a blanket of snow on Easter Monday.

The combination of chocolate eggs and the opportunity to wrap up in snugly hats and scarves and build snowmen proved irresistible as these pictures show.

These captivating images are among many that have been sent to the Mercury proving that, while most of the snow has melted and we have polished off our eggs, it was nice while it lasted.

Standing proudly next to their creations children pose for family album pictures that will remind them of the year Easter was white.

The snow, causing disruption and chaos for some, provided some beautiful scenes with snowmen replacing sandcastles along Gorleston's famous sandy sweep which this time last year was bathed in sunshine with holidaymakers queuing for ice-creams.

This year there was no jostling for parking and not one person waiting for ice-creams although stunning scenes of a snow white beach beneath a leaden sky rewarded those who did make the effort.

Great Yarmouth seafront however was busy, particularly on Sunday afternoon when freezing flurries gave way to some late afternoon sunshine.

And while it was bad news for many of the attractions who had hoped for a good start to the season, there was a silver lining for families who were able to save money and concentrate on some home-spun fun with snowball fights and snowmen.

Sisters Amelia and Isobel Rees were among those enjoying the snow at home in Ormesby St Margaret on Monday when normally, like all their classmates, they would have been in school cooped up in a classroom.
