Bomb disposal experts from the Royal Navy made their way to Norfolk last night to deal with an unexploded shell, which was discovered on the beach at Sea Palling.

The coastguard was alerted to the discovery at about 2.30pm and a crew from Happisburgh attended the scene and sandbagged off the area.

As the unexploded shell was below the waterline, the Navy crew from Portsmouth were called upon rather than experts from Colchester.

It is expected they will deal with the shell this morning and people in the area were warned they might hear a small explosion.
