A HOPTON teenager is hoping he has taken the first steps on the road to stardom after appearing on a BBC television quiz show.

Alex Ouaddane, 14, of Lowestoft Road, appeared on the children's TV show Get 100 on Wednesday , and the keen drama fan hoped the experience will lead on to bigger things on the big screen.

The Cliff Park High School pupil had already had a taste of performing in front of people as he had starred in his school's production of the musical Bugsy Malone at the Hippodrome in Great Yarmouth and had sung in the school choir.

He said: “It was a brilliant experience meeting the presenter (writer Hardeep Singh Kohli) and having the camera in front of me. I would love to have a career in television.”

Alex, who also enjoys sports, was one of four contestants on the show who had to get exactly or as close to 100 points after answering 12 maths-related questions, such as if 400 doughnuts were shared between six people how many would they each get?

The answer to each question is a number representing the number of points the contestant has to pay with. They can then either keep these points, give them to someone, or if possible take them away from someone else.

The contestant who gets to 100 wins the prize pod which is a room full of games, computers, televisions and similar prizes, but if no-one gets to 100 then the closest to this figure gets to pick one of the prizes in the Pod.

He had applied to appear on the other BBC children's show Raven, but was considered too tall for the show.

However, the producers of the CBBC Scotland series Get 100 were impressed by his performance in front of the camera and whisked his mother Clare and himself to Glasgow for the filming in June, putting them up in the city's Hilton Hotel.

Alex, who has an eight-year-old brother Max, finished last in the show, but was pleased to have got the experience under his belt.

On Monday, he said: “I was definitely pretty nervous but the experience of actually being on TV is really good.”
