All in a days work for Bumble

HE responds promptly when called, has an engaging and approachable personality, good observational skills and is very independent.

All of these qualities would make for the perfect employee at a conservatory firm - but this particular staff member is only approximately 30cms tall, has four legs and is covered in fur.

Lhasa Apso dog Bumble has become a familiar face at Morton's Conservatories in Wymondham because his owner Donna Leggett, 35, from Gorleston, has brought the tiny hound into work with her nearly everyday for the last three years.

Indeed, the company's office at Wymondham Business Park has become a second home for the three-year-old as he has his own bed under general manager Miss Leggett's desk complete with his own toys for him to squeeze.

And the firm's 12 office workers have welcomed their new colleague with open arms - the office sandwich ladies bring him treats and the storeroom staff take him out for walks around the industrial park.

Miss Leggett, of Riverside Road, said the idea of getting the dog came from her managing director Mark Alden.

She added Bumble had been a positive influence on the office, helping to calm the busy employees during times of stress and recommended other workers took their dogs into work because of the benefits they bring.

“When he comes in, I would say he is a calming influence on the office. Everyone loves him. They will have a little play with him in the mornings,” she said.

She added: “However, he realises when we have got to work so he generally amuses himself.”

She bought Bumble from Norwich-based Lhasa Apso breeder Irene Plumstead and has been bringing the dog into work since the hound was eight weeks old.

“I definitely support the idea of people taking their pets into work. Having Bumble here is a calming influence and I am lucky I can bring him into work with me,” Miss Leggett said.
