Another large fire has been tackled by firefighters in Norfolk as the heat wave continues,

Today a fire broke out on open land on Hobland Road near Gorleston and was reported to the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service at 12.45pm.

The incident saw firefighters from Norwich and Lowestoft called out to tackle it as smoke could be seen from several miles away.

A spokesman for the Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service said: “Appliances from Earlham and Lowestoft attended a large fire in the open on Hobland Road. “Crews used hose reel jets and a hydrant to extinguish the fire.”

It comes after a wave of field fires and fires in the open over the weekend and there were more fires reported today, including at Brooke, Hales, North Lynn and Hingham.

The largest saw 40 acres on fire in Binham leading to eight fire engines and a water carrier being called out on Sunday. Among the other fires breaking out over the sweltering weekend were ones at Brooke, Felthorpe, Briston and Horsford.
