YET another sighting of UFOs was made in the night skies above Great Yarmouth - this time last Saturday and witnessed by a former Merchant Navy navigating officer.

Craig Chalmers, who lives outside Liverpool, but who was visiting Yarmouth at the time, wrote to The Mercury this week about his sighting and stressed: “I am not prone to fantasy”.

He wrote: “I was in Great Yarmouth last Sunday, September 20. At approximately 22:00 hrs I witnessed two large bright orange spheres of light in the night sky whilst stood in Camperdown outside the Embassy Hotel. The balls of light travelled from north to south at a steady speed and appeared to maintain a constant distance between themselves.

“At first judging by the apparent speed I presumed them to be helicopters. However a jet travelling in the opposite direction passed beneath both at a considerably lower altitude, highlighting the size and apparent altitude of the UFO.

“I can honestly say it is the strangest thing I have witnessed in a long time. I am a former Merchant Navy navigating officer and have knowledge of the night skies and I am not prone to fantasy.

“I have remained slightly disturbed at what I witnessed and mentioned it to my wife. By typing UFO Great Yarmouth into Google we were brought to your online page with an exact picture of what I saw.

“As I am not a local, living outside Liverpool, I have no idea of the frequency of these sightings or any background relating to this matter, however I felt compelled to write to you, if only to corroborate the photos and verify that I have also witnessed something in the night skies not easily explained.”

I would like to tell you about the strange orange light that myself, husband and son saw one evening at the beginning of September. We live on Trafalgar Road West in Gorleston and at about 9.30pm we saw a orange light/orb coming from the Hopton area. At first we thought it to be a helicopter or plane but there was no sound. It took five minutes for it to travel across the sky eventually going over our house. What we saw totally matches other descriptions that other readers have seen. Have any of these lights been seen in any other parts of the country?
