A girl in Martham had her leg broken after being hit by a car whose driver left the scene, prompting a police appeal for witnesses.

The nine-year-old was on her way back from school when she was hit by the silver/grey hatchback at around 3.55pm yesterday in Repps Road, at the junction with Marlborough Green Crescent.

After the girl was hit, a witness who was at the scene and helped the girl explained that the driver got out of his car and came to the nine-year-old's side before leaving shortly after.

Roads Policing Inspector David Ball said: 'I would like the driver to come forward so we can obtain their version of what happened, and help give closure for the family to the whole incident.

'We would also like to speak to anyone who believes they may have seen what happened.'

The driver was white, of medium build and believed to be aged in his late 50s. He was around 6ft tall and had stubble.

The girl is now recovering in James Paget Hospital in Gorleston after a successful operation on her leg this morning.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Simone Sutcliffe at Acle Roads Policing on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
