ALMOST 3,000 was presented to Palliative Care East by Gorleston Golf Club.

Ladies captain Jackie Walsh is pictured presenting a cheque for 2,700 to appeal co-ordinator Jenny Westgate as Palliative Care East was chosen as the clubs charity for the year.

The money was raised by the ladies group at the afternoon tea event, Afternoon at the Ritz, which included a fashion show with daywear from Palmers and eveningwear from Sophisticats.

Meanwhile, Lowestoft woman Faye Barker donated 300 after completing the Great North Run last year in two hours and nine minutes. She was sponsored by pupils at Grove Primary School, Carlton Colville, Gunton Primary School, family and friends and customers at the Red Lion, Blundeston and the Carlton Crown.

Donations from the sale of a magazine produced by the Great Yarmouth Mercury have been given to the appeal. The magazine, part of the newspaper's “The Way We Were” series of specials, was a photographic look back to some of the many forms of transport in the town, all taken from the Mercury's own picture archives.

Mercury advertising sales manager Shaun Coomer said: “We published the magazine in autumn and asked everyone who asked for a free copy from our offices in King Street, Yarmouth and Lowestoft to make a donation to the fund.

“Thanks to the generosity of our readers we completely sold out and raised more than 330 for the appeal.”

Appeal coordinator Jenny Westgate is pictured with the donation and copies of the transport magazine with Shaun Coomer.
