An appeal has been made for businesses and organisations to come forward and help fund a vital community bus service.

The Happing Dial-a-Ride service provides transport for those without their own means of transport, into Stalham and North Walsham from the Broadland and coastal villages surrounding the market town of Stalham.

An initial pilot scheme was put in place in 2006. In 2008 the service was expanded to two days a week, thanks to 4,500 yearly grant from the North Norfolk Community Partnership's Ideas into Actions Fund, but that funding is ending shortly.

Michael Castle, co-ordinator of The Happing Area Partnership, has appealed for donations to tide over the scheme until new funding can be put in place.

He said: “A major bid has been submitted to a new potential funder but it is unclear whether if this is successful it will be in place in time to make a seamless transition.”

Any local business or individual wishing to help should contact Mr Castle at the Happing Shop on 01692 580525 or e-mail happing@btconnect.com
