ASDA in Great Yarmouth is the latest supermarket to sign up to a hard-hitting banning scheme, which aims to rid licensed premises of troublemakers.

Anyone caught shoplifting or causing trouble in the store faces being banned from other pubs and clubs signed up to the Nightsafe scheme launched in Yarmouth in January.

The Acle New Road store joins Tesco Extra in Yarmouth which signed up last month in a bid to deter potential shoplifters.

Nightsafe was devised by local businessman Mike Butcher and PC Gary Pettengell of Norfolk Police and sees unruly drinkers banned from member premises, with their profiles and photographs uploaded to a secure website so information on known troublemakers is shared.

Troublemakers face a six month ban from all 26 member premises if they behaviour is considered unacceptable.
