A NIGHTCLUB in Great Yarmouth can now stay open until 4am after councillors granted an extension in its licence.

Aura nightclub, in Regent Road, can now open from midday until 4am on Fridays and Saturdays after the borough council's licensing committee said sufficient moves had been made to reduce the impact of noise and anti-social behaviour, a concern raised by local residents.

The application made by premises supervisor David Ball will also see the nightclub open from midday until 2am from Sundays to Thursdays, and an extra two hours on bank holiday Sundays.

Representing Mr Ball, barrister Amrik Wahiwala, told the committee his client had taken a number of steps to reduce anti-social behaviour by employing door staff, having regular staff training, displaying 'no drugs policy' signs, and having CCTV inside the nightclub.

Environmental health had originally objected to the proposals by the basement nightclub, but removed their objection after Mr Ball agreed to a series of conditions, including having a limiter on sound equipment, prevent noise and disturbance.

The application received two objections from residents on Nelson Road North, worried about noise, anti-social behaviour and reduce their quality of life.

Mr Wahiwala added that since the club had been under new management there had been no complaints.
