CHILDREN at Wroughton Junior School in Gorleston were spellbound by visiting children's author Val Bloom as she recited her poems and told of her life growing up in Jamaica. The author, who came to England in 1979, now writes, performs and conducts workshops full time and has been at the forefront of performance poetry in the UK for over 10 years.
The children were mesmerized with Val's unique style of poetry, story telling and role-play. She had them speaking her native Jamaican patois and had the whole school taking part in her performance. At the end of her recitals the children had the chance to purchase her books and have them personally signed by Val. Val Bloom was awarded an MBE for her services to poetry last December.
