A teacher at Oriel Mathematics and Computing Specialist College in Gorleston has won a prestigious award for the work she has done forging effective partnerships outside the school.

Liz Haddleton, head of creative arts, is one of 15 teachers nationally to have been awarded the Sinnott Fellowship, given in memory of leading educationalist Steve Sinnott, who died in 2008.

The award, which pays for the Fellow to be freed from normal school responsibilities for two days a week over two terms to work on forging links with outside organisations, recognises teachers with a track record of raising young people's aspirations by presenting them with new opportunities.

Ms Haddleton has been successful in developing links with Gresham's School, in Holt, English Heritage and Morston Hall hotel and restaurant.

She has also been involved in the planning of a community building, to include a theatre, cinema and crche, and the setting up of a radio station in the school.
