Broadcasters Amelia Reynolds and David Whiteley are celebrating their own good news after welcoming a new addition to their family.

Newsreader Amelia and her husband, Inside Out presenter and producer, David, have become first-time parents to baby girl, Annabel Sarah May Whiteley.

Annabel was born at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital by caesarean section on Thursday at 8.36am, weighing 6 lbs 13oz.

She made an early appearance, as she was due to be born today, the same day as David's birthday.

David, who has recently taken over BBC Radio Norfolk's Saturday morning breakfast show from Stewart White, said: “We are just so elated and over-the-moon. Now I have two beautiful girls.

“People say it is life-changing, but you do not really believe them until it happens to you. I held her for the first time and she opened one eye to look at me and that was it, I fell instantly in love.”

The new parents had been told before the birth that Annabel would have to be born by C-section as she was breech and could not be turned.

David said: “The staff at the hospital were absolutely brilliant, they looked after Amelia and Annabel so well, we cannot praise them enough.

“It was an elective caesarean in the end, we knew Annabel was in the breech position and we had been to see the obstetrician to see if we could have her naturally, but they said there was no way she could be turned.”

Both Amelia and Annabel arrived back at the couple's Norwich home on Saturday night.

David said: “We are taking it in turns to look after so Amelia can get a couple of hours sleep, but they are both doing really well.”

The couple found out they were expecting an addition to the family in August, and have been getting lots of tips and advice from colleagues in the BBC East newsroom, many of whom have recently had babies.

Amelia, who as well as presenting and editing Look East bulletins, fronts the Politics Show once a month, will be taking six months off work to look after Annabel, while David is taking two weeks paternity leave, but will still be presenting his Radio Norfolk show.

The couple got together four years ago and married in 2008.

It was work that brought them to Norwich and led to them meeting although they both have their roots in the eastern region, Amelia grew up in Fressingfield in Suffolk and David was originally from Leigh-on-Sea in Essex.
