FORMER students of the old Great Yarmouth Grammar School attended a reunion dinner organised by the School Diners Club at the Imperial Hotel. Fifty-seven students went to the dinner with ages ranging from early 40s to 87.
FORMER students of the old Great Yarmouth Grammar School attended a reunion dinner organised by the School Diners Club at the Imperial Hotel. Fifty-seven students went to the dinner with ages ranging from early 40s to 87.
David Rich, the Diners Club secretary, said: “It was very pleasing to see so many old students of the school present, 20 more than last year.”
One of the highpoints of the evening was the rendering of the old school song, Carpe Diem, by the two senior men present, Bill Deane and Jack Grice, which drew thunderous applause from the others present and inspired the rest of the company to sing the succeeding school song written by the late headmaster Alfred Palmer.
Mr Rich said he was particularly pleased to see Michael Leigh, the headmaster of the old grammar school, who had travelled from Cumbria. Michael Boon gave a toast to the school. The date for next year's dinner is April 23.
The photograph shows the old grammarians whose time at school ranged from the 1930s to the 1970s.
