Sid Fillery, 61, who now works at Lion Inn in Thurne, near Acle, is charged with perverting the course of justice after he worked on the original murder investigation into the death of private eye Danny Morgan in 1987. He was a detective sergeant with the Metropolitan police at the time.
Fillery was not in court for the bail application which was heard in chambers at the Old Bailey. His bail is subject to six conditions, which have not been made public.
He will return to court in October with four others who are charged with murder. A trial is expected to take place in April.
