A youth centre in Great Yarmouth that was burnt down by arsonists last year has been given a cash donation by Warburtons to help teach youngsters about nutrition, fitness and healthy living.
Newtown Youth Centre in Jellicoe Road, which helps 250 children and teenagers in the local area, is setting up a healthy eating and fitness classroom.
Warburtons Thetford Depot donated 500 to buy gym equipment for the new classroom at the centre, which has since been rebuilt.
Carl Harding, centre secretary, said: “We were worried that the fire would be the end of the youth centre. It has been thanks to kind hearted businesses and individuals that have made it possible for us to reopen and the children and I couldn't be more grateful.
“This donation from Warburtons will really help us move forward and not only provide a fun environment, but promote learning and healthy lifestyles among all our members.”
Ian Dickerson, general manager at Warburtons Thetford Depot, said: “What happened at Newtown Youth Centre was nothing short of a tragedy. The centre provides a productive way for hundreds of youngsters to spend their time. It is great that they have been able to re-open and we are proud to be supporting them in helping youngsters understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”
