A BANNED driver who led police on a four-mile pursuit through Great Yarmouth was finally arrested after he reversed into a police car leaving it a write-off a court heard.

A BANNED driver who led police on a four-mile pursuit through Great Yarmouth was finally arrested after he reversed into a police car leaving it a write-off a court heard.

Lee McKean, 20, ignored police requests to stop and drove at speeds of 70mph in a 30mph zone, went through red lights and also drove on the wrong side of the road, Norwich Crown Court heard.

He was finally boxed in by police vehicles but quickly reversed his car. One police car managed to get out of the way but the car crashed into a second vehicle leaving it a write-off.

McKean, of no fixed address, admitted dangerous driving and driving while banned.

Judge Peter Jacobs gave him 12 months custody in a young offender's institution which is to be served after he completes a 15 month sentence he is already serving for affray. He was also given a three year driving ban.

Judge Jacobs said McKean had an “appalling record” and it was fortunate no-one was hurt or killed.
