A Gorleston barmaid will raise money for soldiers when takes on a daredevil fundraiser - jumping 13,000ft from a plane then running 15 miles as soon as her feet hit the floor.

Next Sunday, Rhia Bowles, who works part-time behind the bar at the Feathers pub in Gorleston High Street, will take part in a tandem skydive at Ellough Airfield near Beccles, freefalling at speeds of 120mph before parachuting to the ground.

While that alone would make most people weak at the knees, 27-year-old Mrs Bowles will set off one a 15 mile run to the Feathers as soon she lands.

She is raising money for three causes close to her heart: PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder) Resolution, a charity helping ex-servicemen and women deal with the mental scars of war; Beatbullying; and Macmillan cancer support in memory of her grandmother.

She admits the fundraiser sounds “bonkers” but will be supported on the day stepfather Duane Debnam-Roberts, and fellow Lowestoft College student Victorino Long who will run with her, and mum Lorraine Debnam-Roberts, husband Christopher, and pub colleague Sophie McLelan cycling the route.

“I come from an extensive army background,” said Mrs Bowles. “My brother is an officer in the Royal Tank Regiment, mum met dad while they were both serving in Cyprus, dad was in the PT Corps (Royal Army Physical Training Corps) for over 20 years and I met my husband, Chris, while working for the NAAFI and he was a Royal Engineer.”
