Two cancer research charities have shared a £2,500 funding boost thanks to a variety show in Great Yarmouth.

Great Yarmouth councillor Barry Coleman has presented cheques to Bloodwise and Cancer Research UK after his successful Saturday Night at St George’s Theatre variety show held earlier in the year.

Mary Coleman, who is mayor of the borough, received a £1,250 donation on behalf of Bloodwise, which funds research into all forms of blood cancers.

Currently more than 240,000 people in the UK are living with blood cancers and related disorders.

The second charity boost saw Gary Bennett receive a £1,250 donation for Cancer Research UK.

He leads team Lauren Lou, a local group of volunteers based in Lowestoft covering Suffolk and Norfolk. They use a pink three wheel vehicle to promote their cause.

Thanks to research survival rates have doubled in the last 40 years and continue to rise each year.
