A GAY man will appear before Norwich Crown Court charged with allowing his partner to commit a �20,000 benefit and council tax fraud.
Peter Jarmey, 48, of Regent Road, Great Yarmouth is charged with allowing Michael Sweeney to claim overpayments of �10,213 in income support and �10,569 in council tax after failing to declare they were living together as a civil partnership.
Mr Sweeney began claiming income support in August 2002, but the allegation relates to the period from December 5 2005 until April 16 last year when it is alleged he was living as a civil partner with Jarmey, an employee at Eversley Nursing Home in Yarmouth.
Mr Sweeney has been charged with failing to declare he was living with Jarmey.
Jarmey will appear before Yarmouth magistrates on May 29 for a committal hearing on charges of failing to notify the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) of a change of circumstances and two counts of allowing another to fail to notify the DWP.
He did not attend a hearing before Yarmouth magistrates today when his case was adjourned for the committal hearing.
