BIKERS taking part in this year's Eastern Lights Motorcycle Cavalcade have raised a record amount for the James Paget University Hospital.
A total of £13,830 will buy additional equipment for the hospital's accident-and-emergency unit.
Glenda Turner, senior sister at the hospital, said: “I am delighted to receive this donation which brings the total raised in the seven years of this event to almost £57,000. Using this generous donation to get extra equipment and facilities at the A&E unit will really make a big difference.”
The cavalcade was completely booked up again this year with 1,000 riders taking part.
Organising committee spokesman Paul Howard said: “All available places were sold in advance and we were disappointed to have to turn away around 100 riders without tickets. However we were greatly encouraged by the support received from motorcyclists riding in the cavalcade and by the generosity of the general public watching the bikes. The number of spectators seems to grow each year.”
